2018 - A Night at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
A night at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo gives time to watch a familiar landscape change. The three peaks remain the centre of the view, but their appearance shifts as the daylight fades, the colour leaves the rock and the sky begins to darken.
At sunset, pink, purple and orange spread across the sky. For a while, the light brings out the surfaces of the mountains; then the details become harder to distinguish and the outlines take over. The peaks that seemed so solid in daylight become dark shapes against the last colour on the horizon.
As night falls, attention moves towards the stars. The mountains are still there, giving scale and structure to the view, while the sky occupies more of the photograph. Staying through that transition allows the same place to be seen in very different ways.
This series follows that passage from evening into night during my visit in 2018. The photographs belong to the same setting, held together by the three peaks and separated by the changing light. That is what makes spending a night here different from stopping for a single view: there is time for the landscape to change around you.
