2019 - Gorges du Verdon

The Gorges du Verdon, an enchanting natural wonder nestled in the heart of Provence, France. Carved over millions of years by the majestic Verdon River, this awe-inspiring canyon boasts remarkable beauty and unparalleled grandeur. With its towering limestone cliffs, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and diverse flora and fauna, the Gorges du Verdon is a true paradise for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

Stretching for approximately 25 kilometers, the Verdon Gorge is often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of Europe," and for good reason. Its sheer walls, reaching heights of up to 700 meters, provide an awe-inspiring backdrop to the picturesque landscape below. As sunlight filters through the narrow gorge, it creates a kaleidoscope of colors, casting mesmerizing reflections on the water and illuminating the cliffs in golden hues.

One of the most remarkable inhabitants of the Gorges du Verdon is the vulture, a magnificent bird that soars high above the canyon walls. The Verdon region is home to one of the largest vulture populations in Europe, with species such as the griffon vulture and the Egyptian vulture taking residence in the area. These majestic creatures, with their impressive wingspans and graceful flight, add an ethereal touch to the already mesmerizing scenery of the Gorges du Verdon.
