The day before Mauni Amawasya, the new moon day when both the sun and moon are in Capricorn. According to south indian amavasyant calenders it falls in the month of Paush. In the 2013 it was on 10th February 2013. Bathing on Mauni Amavasya during Kumbh mela is considered highly auspicious, because is one of the most auspicious days to perform ritual bath at Triveni Sangam / Prayag at Allahabad. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims from all around the world arrive at prayag to take bath on this day. Every year Magh mela is held during this time, but during the years of Kumbh Mela and Ardh Kumbh mela, Magh mela is not organized.
Mauna means silence and spiritual performer, Amvavasya is the new moon day.
